After high school, I was a Radioman in the U.S. Navy for four years. After leaving the navy, I was employed with Owens-Coming Fiberglas for nine years. I held positions from communications, customer service and field sales. I left OCF in 1971 and became the branch manager for the MacArthur Co. in Denver, Colorado. We were distributors of mechanical insulations, accessories, roofing products and equipment. In 1980 we moved to Salt Lake City where I returned to Owens-Coming (Supply Division) in field sales to insulation contractors. In 1987 OCF closed the SLC office and I went to work for CertainTeed. My positions were in field sales, program manager for the CT Certified Plus Home Program. The CPH was an energy efficient home modeling program, developed to increase energy efficiency, indoor air quality and comfort. I was on special assignment with the National Accounts group until my retirement in March of 2006. In late 2006 I returned to CT on a part time bases, again with National Accounts.
I am married to the love of my life (Camille for 46 years) and we have four children, Bonnie, Chris, Karyn and Chuck. We have fifteen grandkids who live from as far east as Charlottesville, VA, Denver and close to home in SLC.
Member: Jerry Zenger
Jerry is a leading authority in the state of Utah on energy codes for commercial buildings. He has become one of Utah's chief advocates of the public benefits of energy conservation. While working at the University of Utah, Jerry lead a training program that targeted architects, engineers, contractors, owners and developers, suppliers and vendors, trades and crafts workers, inspectors and financing agencies. He also gave lectures on the merits of the nation's newest energy codes for homes and commercial buildings to audiences throughout Utah.
Jerry helped write the Utah proposal that calls for creating a demand for code-complying buildings -- both residential and commercial -- through a public education program; establishing a commercial-code training cadre to work with architects, engineers, building officials and others; and training inspectors to ensure that energy codes are uniformly and consistently enforced in all jurisdictions. Jerry's interest in conservation isn't strictly financial or professional. "It's also an ethical thing."
